ART COMES ALIVE 2017 -MARIA D'SOUZARecently, while out of town exhibiting at The Western Design Conference in Jackson Hole Wyoming I received the incredible news that my work has been chosen to be exhibited at “Art Comes Alive,” which is one of the largest and most prestigious art competitions in the country. That by itself is a great honor but the folks at Art Comes Alive have also recently informed me that I will be receiving an award on the opening night of the exhibit, Oct. 14th, 2017. They do not reveal which award the artists are winning until the ceremony. The piece of mine that was chosen for the exhibit is called “Birdseye Blesbok.” https://beadedskullart.com/portfolio-items/birdseye-blesbok/

Art Comes Alive, known as “The Academy Awards for Art” is a nationwide art competition produced by Art Design Consultants in Cincinnati Ohio. This annual competition is one of the largest with over $250,000 in prizes and over $80,000 in purchase awards for the winning artists.

This year, nearly 500 artists submitted 2000 works of art to be judged. 200 pieces are chosen for the exhibition which opens with a gala event and awards ceremony on Oct. 14th and lasts through Nov. 30th.

Art Comes Alive is a very unique competition. Like most competitions there are cash awards and recognition for the winning artists but many of the awards are such things as solo booths at some of the biggest art shows in the country, 21 different gallery contracts, promotional pieces in magazines, and group shows. The most unique aspect of Art Comes Alive is that the main focus is finding buyers for the art work and furthering the artist’s careers. The jury panel mainly consists of gallery owners and art professionals from North America and Europe. The week prior to the opening of exhibit and awards ceremony, collectors, interior designers, gallery owners, and art consultants are invited to the gallery to preview the artwork. Last year 52 pieces were already sold prior to the opening of the exhibit!

The event kicks off Oct. 14th with a VIP opening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at ADC’s Gallery in the Sky, 310 Culvert St. Cincinnati Ohio. The awards ceremony follows from 6:30 – 8:30 at the School for Creative and Performing Arts, 108 W. Central Parkway, Cincinnati Ohio, with an after party from 8:30 – 10:00 back at the gallery.
