Cincinnati-based artist Maria D’Souza took home three awards at Art Comes Alive (ACA Awards), an international art competition produced by Art Design Consultants (ADC Fine Art) on Saturday, October 14.
D’Souza was honored by a panel of 25 international gallery owners and art professionals as a top-10 vote-getter, Medium – Mixed Media Artist of the Year and Emerging Female Artists of the Year for her beaded skull art piece, “Birdseye Blesbok.” The piece was among 2,000 entries in the competition. Art Comes Alive had a record breaking year, presenting more than $345,000 in purchase awards and prizes to winners.
“Maria’s work adds flavor and depth to our gallery,” said Litsa Spanos, owner of Art Design Consultants and Blink Art Resources, and producer of the Art Comes Alive competition. “It speaks to her life story of living and traveling abroad, fusing her experiences. Each piece is its own story, all while honoring the life of the animal.”
The recognition comes on the heels of a very successful exhibit in Jackson Hole, Wyo., where D’Souza was invited to display her works at the 25th Anniversary of The Western Design Conference, sponsored by Mountain Living Magazine. In May, she was the only non-Denver based artist commissioned to produce a custom piece for The Confluence, the newest and highest priced residential building in the heart of downtown Denver.
“Maria is an artist who is making her mark in a very competitive art market,” Spanos added.
D’Souza has been invited to exhibit at the oldest western art show in the U.S., the Out West Art Show (March 14-17, 2018), as well as the exhibit and auction at the prestigious CM Russell Museum, both in Great Falls, Mont. In the spring of 2018, her works will also be featured in two fine art galleries in Cody, Wyo., and Red Lodge, Mont.
